Philosophy

Our school is a unique institute in the sense that it is a part of the worldwide Sri Sathya Sai Organization. Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai is our Spiritual Guru and we follow his philosophy and his directions.
1. We believe in Educare, bringing out the treasure within. We make endeavour to help each child manifest the perfection. I.e. divinity that lies within.
2. We lay emphasis on total development of personality of students. i.e. psychic and spiritual aspects of personality besides intellectual, physical and emotional aspects.
3. We believe in self-discipline i.e. students making discipline a way of life. We use demonstration, persuasion, motivation and appreciation to help one realize one’s mistake and make efforts not to repeat such mistake in future. We do not believe in enforcing discipline through corporal punishment or harsh reprimand.
4. We believe in unity of faiths and do not have any prejudices about caste, creed and religion. We believe in righteousness and refrain from using undue influence or unfair means.
5. We believe in working for welfare of all. We encourage and welcome free, frank and open communication at all levels.

“Education is for life and not for a mere living”. This is how Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Chancellor of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (Deemed University) sums up the essence of education.

“Excellence means doing the little things well. Doing a thousand things one percent better than doing one thing a thousand percent better.”

To summarize the concept of this educational plan, we can recapitulate its assumptions and postulates as follows
1. In life, man seeks to accomplish excellence and thus satisfy the prime human aspiration.
2. Excellence is not competition with others but with ones own self.
3. Excellence is an attitude to life and can be imbibed.
4. The one of inculcating and developing this attitude is on education.
5. Schooling for excellence is an educational plan designed to achieve this purpose.

The Programme

Over the last two decades, Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba has been guiding the Sai Educational Establishments to evolve an excellence – oriented integral approach to education that truly provides for all national and human goals. In Baba’s view “Educational institutions have the responsibility to give to the society well educated persons who are competent and who are men of integrity and who can be relied upon to serve society with devotion and competence.” This is our prime goal at Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Mandir.

In the context of our school education, excellence has 3 components

1. Academic Excellence.
2. Environmental Excellence.
3. Human Excellence.

Our efforts are to provide systematic and well configured inputs for all these levels, it would lead to wholesome development of students’ personality. The personality will be imbibed with excellence.

Academic Excellence

Academic excellence comprises of three interdependent streams. Namely, a skillful teacher, a receptive and disciplined student and thirdly the quality and process of teaching. To achieve this we put a combination of inputs for all 3 streams so that combination yields desired results. Academic excellence cannot terminate in vaccum and therefore it would not be complete unless it includes the necessary practical thrust on vocational inputs and creative work. Schooling for excellence provides all these planes.

Environmental Excellence:

Environment as per dictionary means surroundings. It also means the framework in which are breathes, in which one walks, sees, smells and reacts.

The environment of a school is of paramount importance. The term environment here is used with an omnibus connotation to include all factors (except academic) that make school setting. The students learn and pick up a large number of habits and modes from the environment. It also turns out to be the first training ground for developing a sense of social responsibility and highlights the importance of collective work.

While the importance of monetary inputs required for creating an appropriate environment cannot be understated, it is equally important not to despair but to cultivate and develop a positive attitude for optional utilization of the existing resources, which means judiciously using all that the school is presently equipped with. There would still be some vital gaps with some efforts, it may be possible to mobilize the support of community to meet the shortfalls.

Human Excellence

Human Excellence connotes inculcation of basic human values of Truth, Righteous Conduct, Peace, Love and Non-violence. Fore sure, education would not be worth its name otherwise. In fact, a citizen devoid of these values is a liability to the nation. Further more human values have to be cultivated from the childhood itself when the attitude and habit formation takes place. As said earlier, the age group of 6 to 15 years is considered the best to impart value education.

Value Education or Education in Human Values is our focus. This leads to Human Excellence. It is a combination of teaching technique and practical methodology. EHV generally begins with a four-day orientation course for the teachers who in turn use these recommended teaching devices in the classrooms for blossoming the personality of the children. Sri Sathya Sai EHV Trust has a competent faculty all over the country.

There is no limit to the hints and activities that can be listed and implemented for pursuing various components of excellence. No such list can be exhaustive because innovations are a part of teaching and the teacher is the best judge of strategy and situation.

1. Love as thought is Truth.
2. Love as action is Right Conduct.
3. Love as feeling is Peace.
4. Love as understanding is Non-violence.

Principles of the Curriculum

Inspired and guided by Sri Sathya Sai Baba, there is a powerful sense of unity in the development and implementation of the curriculum of Sathya Sai Education.

The main components of this are as follows

1. Divinity – Divinity is inherent in every human being.
2. Unity of Faith – All religions teach the one truth, that the one God is omnipresent and Omniscient, and the human values cannot be practiced without understanding that love forms the very foundation of every religion.
3. 3HV – End of education is character. Baba says character is unity in thought, word and deed. First H is for heart, second for head and third for hands. When there is harmony between 3H, one becomes a great and good man and hence God man.
4. Values – The 5 basic human values of Love, Truth, Righteousness (Conduct), Peace & Non-violence are 5 pillars of Sathya Sai Education.
5. Techniques – The 5 teaching techniques of Prayer, Meditation, Story telling, Group singing and Group activities are integrated and used as a powerful instructional methodology.

6.

Role Model – Be…Do...Tell is the message for all here. The entire school community is expected to put into practice the values which we want our children to acquire in their own lives.
7. Holistic Approach – It’s a complete curriculum project with all components like foundations of educational sciences, course content, activities, instructional methodology, evaluation procedure and a teacher-training module. The pedagogy is holistic. It promotes the integration of VALUES with academic subjects and co-curricular activities.
